I love bringing my paints with me into the outdoors and finding new locations or ones to always go back to. I have returned again and again to Monhegan Island, ME for the past 10 years. This island has the energy and inspiration of artists, current and past.
When you paint in the outdoors the world changes around you, you have to capture the essence of what you see and feel. When I am in this moment I feel fully present and get lost in time, hence art is my own form of meditation.

South End of Jewel 2020
This year has changed a lot of my adventuring and art practices with the global pandemic. What didn’t change is the annual trip to Jewel Island and packing those paints in my kayak right before the start of a hybrid teaching school year. So great to feel the normalcy of capturing this earth on one of these great Maine islands before the unknown in how to teach in a pandemic.

This board I paddled out to Jewel Island, ME from Portland, ME. Every summer I journey with a group of friends to this magical island. We pack everything into our kayaks and spend two days on the island. I find a little space for some boards and paints.
I did this piece before everyone woke up, our view from the campsite. As each person woke the sun continued to rise and my painting emerged once the last person rose. An amazing moment.
